How to use the Text Cleaner & Formatter

1. Paste or type the messy text into the Text Cleaner. Word, character and line counts update as you go.
2. Tick the cleaning options you need (extra spaces, blank lines, trim, tabs, duplicates, or line breaks).
3. Click Clean Text to run only the options you selected, or Clean All for a sensible full tidy (it leaves line breaks alone so lists and paragraphs stay readable).
4. Check the cleaned box, the new counts, and how many characters and lines were removed.
5. Click Copy Cleaned Text when you are happy, or Clear to start again.

What it is for

Copied text often arrives with doubled spaces, empty lines, tabs from a spreadsheet, or the same line repeated. The Text Cleaner & Formatter strips that noise in the browser so you can paste a tidy version into an email, a document, a CMS field or a chat.

Use it when you have pulled copy from a PDF, a webpage, Excel, Slack or an old Word file and the spacing looks wrong. It is a formatter, not a spellchecker and not a rewriter: it changes whitespace and line structure, not your wording.

What each option does

• Remove extra spaces: collapses runs of spaces on each line into one space.
• Remove blank lines: drops empty lines so blocks sit together.
• Trim each line: strips spaces at the start and end of every line.
• Convert tabs to spaces: replaces tab characters with four spaces.
• Remove duplicate lines: keeps the first occurrence of each line and removes later repeats.
• Remove line breaks: joins lines into one continuous block (handy for broken paragraphs; leave it off for lists).

Why it runs in your browser

Cleaning happens on your device. Drafts, customer lists and unpublished copy are not uploaded to Catpool. That matters when the text is confidential or simply not ready to leave the tab.

Common questions

Will Clean All delete my paragraphs?

No. Clean All turns on spaces, blank lines, trim, tabs and duplicate removal, but it leaves Remove line breaks off on purpose so structured text does not become one long sentence.

Does it change my words or spelling?

No. It only adjusts spaces, tabs, blank lines, duplicates and optional line breaks. Spelling, grammar and meaning stay as you pasted them.

Can I undo a clean?

The original stays in the top box until you clear it. Run different options again, or copy the cleaned result and keep the input as a backup. There is no cloud history because nothing is stored.

Is duplicate removal case-sensitive?

Lines are compared after a simple trim. Two lines that look the same once leading and trailing spaces are gone count as duplicates; the first one is kept.

Joining broken lines

Text copied from a PDF or email often breaks in the middle of sentences. Tick Remove line breaks, then choose what goes between the joined lines: a space, nothing, or your own separator such as a comma. Tick Keep paragraphs to join the lines inside each paragraph but keep the gaps between paragraphs.
