What it is for
Quick age checks for forms, sports age groups, school paperwork, travel documents, or planning a birthday. It is a calendar calculation on your device, not a legal certificate. If an organisation needs an official figure, follow their rules and documents.
People also use it to double-check eligibility cut-offs (for example “must be 18 on this date”) without counting on fingers. Set the optional comparison date to that cut-off day and read the years, months and days on that date.
For percentages, VAT or a mortgage estimate rather than age, the other pages in Calculators cover those jobs.
What the results mean
The summary is your age in whole years, months and days from the birth date to the comparison date. Totals show how many months, weeks, days, hours, minutes and seconds that span covers which is handy for curiosity or a birthday message, not for legal filings. The next-birthday line shows how many days until the next anniversary of the birth date (or notes when today is the birthday).
If the date of birth is after the comparison date, the tool tells you so and does not invent a negative age.
Why it runs in your browser
Dates stay on your device. Catpool does not store date of birth, does not create an account for this tool, and does not keep a history of calculations. Close the tab and the session is gone.
Tips
- Match the “as of” date an organisation asks for (enrolment day, race day, visa cut-off) rather than only today’s date.
- Leap-day birthdays: the calendar maths uses the dates you enter; some schools and clubs have their own leap-day rules, so check theirs if it matters.
- Timezone: the comparison uses the dates as entered on this page, not a remote server clock for the arithmetic itself.
Common questions
Does it handle leap years?
Yes. The result uses the calendar dates you enter, including 29 February where relevant. On non-leap years, some organisations treat leap-day birthdays differently, so check their policy if it matters for enrolment or law.
Why might a form disagree?
Some systems count only whole years, ignore months and days, or use a different “as of” timezone or date. Match their required date and method if the number must match exactly.
Can I calculate age on a past or future date?
Yes. Set Age on this date to the day you care about. Leave it on today when you only need current age.
Are the totals exact to the second?
Totals are derived from the span between birth and the comparison moment used by the page. They are fine for everyday use. They are not a notarised record.
Is my date of birth saved?
No. Nothing is stored on Catpool. Clear the fields or close the tab when you are done.
Is this proof of age?
No. It is a calculator. For ID checks, use the documents the organisation asks for.
