How to make a meme

The classic meme look
Most memes use the same style: tall, bold white capitals with a thick black outline, so the words stay readable on any photo, light or dark. Meme Maker draws text that way automatically. Untick ALL CAPS if you want your words exactly as typed.
Long captions wrap onto extra lines and shrink a little so they never cover the whole picture. Short, punchy text works best: a set-up at the top and the punchline at the bottom.
Your photo keeps its shape
Some meme makers crop every picture into a square. This one keeps your photo’s own shape, so wide shots and tall phone photos stay whole. Very large photos are scaled to 1,200 pixels on the longest side, which is plenty for social media and keeps the file small. Need it smaller still? Privacy

Can I make a meme with my own picture?
Yes. Press Upload a photo and pick any picture from your phone or computer, such as a selfie, a pet photo or a screenshot. If you just want words on a plain background, choose one of the blanks instead.
How do I share my meme on WhatsApp, Instagram or X?
Press Download PNG, then share the saved image from your phone’s photos or your computer’s downloads folder like any other picture. On a phone, the Share option in your browser can often send it straight to an app.
Does it work on my phone?
Yes. It works in the browser on iPhone and Android. Drag the words with your finger. If the PNG opens in a new tab instead of saving, press Open, then use your browser’s Save or Share option.
Which font does it use?
It uses Impact, the classic meme font, where your device has it. Phones without Impact use their own tall, heavy font instead, so the meme still looks bold and clear.
Can I use an animated GIF?
You can upload a GIF, but the meme is saved as a still PNG using the first frame. To make a moving picture, try the GIF Maker.
Can I move or resize each line separately?
Yes. Each line can be dragged on its own, and the Size slider changes whichever line is picked. On a computer you can also click the preview and nudge the picked line with the arrow keys.
