What it is for
A barcode encodes data as a pattern a scanner can read faster than a person can type. This page builds a simple linear barcode from what you type, then lets you download the image for a label, a stock sheet or a test scan.
Code 128 is the flexible option: it accepts letters and numbers, so it suits internal SKUs and mixed strings. EAN-13 is the thirteen-digit retail code used on most packaged goods in the UK and Europe, numbers only. Enter twelve digits and the generator calculates the final check digit; enter thirteen and it checks that last digit. UPC-A is the twelve-digit North American cousin: eleven digits get a check digit added, twelve are validated.
Use it for mock packaging, warehouse labels, or a one-off code you need to print today. It is not a product database and it will not register a GTIN with GS1. For a square code that phones open with a camera, use the QR Code Generator instead.
Why it runs in your browser
The barcode is drawn in the tab from the value you typed. You do not upload a spreadsheet or create an account. Handy when the string is an internal part number you would rather not send to a third-party label site.
Common questions
Which type should I pick?
Code 128 if the value includes letters or you only need something scannable in-house. EAN-13 for a standard UK/EU product-style number. UPC-A if you are matching a US-style twelve-digit code.
What if I only have twelve digits for an EAN?
Enter those twelve. The generator adds the check digit and tells you the full thirteen-digit value it encoded. The same idea applies to an eleven-digit UPC-A body.
Why was my EAN rejected?
EAN-13 must be numeric. If you supplied thirteen digits and the last one does not match the calculated check digit, generation stops so you do not print a code that will fail at the till. Correct the number, or enter the first twelve digits and let the tool finish it.
