Currency Converter
Enter an amount and pick two currencies. Rates come from the European Central Bank via Frankfurter. Banks and kiosks will quote a different price.
Reference rate only. Cards, banks and bureaux add a margin.
How to use the Currency Converter
- Type an amount. It starts at 100.
- Choose From and To, tap a common pair (GBP → EUR, GBP → USD, EUR → USD or USD → GBP), or use ⇅ to swap the two currencies.
- Read the converted amount, the rate both ways, and the ECB date under the result.
- Click Copy result when you want the figure and currency code on the clipboard.

What it is for
A reference conversion against the latest European Central Bank rate published through Frankfurter. Use it to size a holiday budget, check a price list in another currency, or sanity-check a quote before you commit. It is not the rate your bank, card or bureau will charge: they add a margin, and some apply weekend pricing.
The page is built for everyday fiat pairs the ECB publishes (for example GBP, USD, EUR, CAD, AUD, JPY and others in the lists). It is a snapshot for planning, not a foreign-exchange service, and Catpool does not hold or send money.
For metres, kilos and similar, use the Unit Converter.
Where the rate comes from
The page requests the pair from Frankfurter. That feed is rebuilt from ECB reference rates, usually from the last working day rather than a live tick. Weekends and public holidays keep the previous published rate. Nothing you type is stored on Catpool as a conversion history.
Treat the number as a mid-market-style reference. Before you book travel, pay an invoice or move a large sum, confirm the deal rate and fees with your provider.
Tips for a useful conversion
- Convert the amount you actually care about (hotel total, invoice, shopping basket), not only “1” of the currency. The rate line is there if you need the unit price.
- Swap with ⇅ when you want the reverse pair without retyping the codes.
- Read the ECB date under the result so you know how fresh the feed is.
- Expect your card statement to differ: FX fees and the provider’s own spread sit on top of any reference rate.
Common questions
Why is AED or SAR unavailable?
Those currencies are not in the ECB set this tool uses, even if they appear in the list. Pick a pair the ECB publishes, such as GBP, USD or EUR. If the page shows “Rate unavailable”, try another pair or wait and reload.
Why does the date lag today?
ECB reference rates are not a live FX screen. Weekends and holidays keep the last working-day rate. The date under the result is the published reference date, not “right now”.
Can I convert in both directions?
Yes. Use ⇅ to swap, or read the inverse line under the main rate. Copy result takes the figure shown for the current From → To direction.
Why does my bank show a different number?
Banks, cards and bureaux apply their own rates, weekend pricing and fees. A reference rate on a website will rarely match the amount that leaves your account. Use this page for a ballpark, then confirm with your provider.
Is this a live trading rate?
No. It is an ECB reference via Frankfurter, usually one weekday behind a live screen. It is fine for budgets and comparisons, not for locking a deal.
Do you store the amounts I type?
No conversion history is kept on Catpool. Close the tab and the session is gone. The rate request itself goes to the Frankfurter feed so the page can show a number.
