How to play Brick Cascade

  1. Pick a level. Level 1 is open straight away and each level you clear unlocks the next. There are eight hand-built layouts, from a simple warm-up to a fortress of tough red bricks.
  2. Launch the ball. Tap or click the play area, or press Space. The white ball leaves the red paddle at a slight angle.
  3. Move the paddle. On a phone or tablet, drag your finger anywhere on the board. On a computer, move the mouse or use the ← → arrow keys (A and D work too). Where the ball lands on the paddle sets its angle: hit it near the edge to send it off sideways.
  4. Clear every coloured brick. Red, pink, orange and amber bricks break in one hit. Bricks with a white outline need two. Grey bricks can’t be broken: use them to bounce the ball into awkward corners.
  5. Catch power-ups. Some bricks drop a glowing orb. Catch it with the paddle to switch on a timed power-up. The time left shows in the top-left corner.

The thin bar along the top of the board shows how much of the level you’ve cleared. You have three lives per level; you lose one each time your last white ball drops past the paddle.

The power-ups

  • +3 (blue) makes the paddle noticeably wider for 12 seconds.
  • MAX (purple) stretches the paddle across almost the whole board for 8 seconds. It’s hard to miss anything.
  • Laser (cyan) fires a vertical beam from the middle of the paddle for 6 seconds, chewing through the lowest brick above it. Slide along underneath a column to cut it down.
  • Debris balls (yellow) is the big one. Normally the little fragments that fall from broken bricks drop straight through your paddle. For 6 seconds, every fragment you catch bounces back up as a mini ball that breaks bricks too, and every brick it breaks sheds more fragments. Catch enough of them and the whole level can collapse in a cascade.

Mini balls are a bonus: they fade after a few seconds and losing them never costs a life. Only your main white ball counts.

Stars and saving

When you clear a level you get one to three stars depending on how quickly you did it. Each level has its own target time, shown in the results if you missed the top score. Your best stars, best times and unlocked levels are saved in your browser on this device, so you can come back later and carry on. Nothing is sent to a server and there’s no account. Use Reset progress on the level screen to start again from scratch.

Hit Share on the results screen to send your score to a friend. On phones this opens the usual share sheet; on a computer it copies a short message and the link.

Tips for a bigger cascade

  • Save Debris orbs for a full board. The more bricks left, the more fragments fall, so catching Debris early in a level gives the biggest chain reaction.
  • Stay under the action. Fragments fall close to where bricks break. Keep the paddle beneath the busiest area while Debris is active.
  • Use the edges. Hitting the ball with the end of the paddle sends it out at a sharp angle, perfect for getting behind grey blocks.
  • Don’t chase everything. Your white ball matters most. If an orb and the ball are falling at the same time, save the ball.
  • Pause when you need to. Press P, Esc or the pause button. The game also pauses by itself if you switch tabs.

Frequently asked questions

Does it work on my phone?

Yes. The board scales to your screen and you control the paddle by dragging anywhere on it. It runs at a steady 60 frames per second on most modern phones because the number of fragments and balls on screen is capped.

Is there sound?

Simple retro sound effects are available but start switched off. Tap the speaker button to turn them on; your choice is remembered.

The screen shakes. Can I turn that off?

If your device is set to reduce motion, Brick Cascade turns off the screen shake and uses fewer fragments automatically.

Why did my mini balls disappear?

Mini balls only last about ten seconds, otherwise the board would never settle. They fade before they vanish.

Is it free?

Yes, completely free, with no downloads and no sign-up. It’s a small original game made for Catpool.
