Unit Converter
Convert length, weight, temperature, volume and more. Results update as you type.
How to use the Unit Converter
- Choose a Conversion type: length, weight & mass, temperature, volume, area, speed, time, data, energy or pressure.
- Enter the Value, then set From and To. Use ⇄ to swap the two units.
- The result updates as you type. Copy result takes the figure and unit.
- Reset returns the page to length so you can start clean.

What it is for
Everyday unit changes without opening a spreadsheet: metres to feet, kilograms to pounds, Celsius to Fahrenheit, litres to pints, and the other families in the type list. Most conversions are a multiply-and-divide through a base unit: metres, kilograms, litres, square metres, metres per second, seconds, bytes (1024-based), joules or pascals. Temperature is the exception: Celsius, Fahrenheit and Kelvin are converted through Celsius rather than a single factor.
UK pints and gallons are listed separately from US ones. Pick the region that matches the recipe or label you are reading. Data uses binary kilobytes (1024), which is what most operating systems mean by KB. For a percentage rather than a unit change, use the Percentage Calculator. For currency, use the Currency Converter.
Conversion types on this page
- Length, area, volume, speed: distance, floorspace, liquid measures and how fast something moves.
- Weight & mass: including stone (UK stone = 14 pounds).
- Temperature: Celsius, Fahrenheit and Kelvin.
- Time, energy, pressure: durations, joule-based energy and pascal-based pressure.
- Data: binary KB/MB-style sizes (1024), not decimal SI marketing sizes.
Why it runs in your browser
The arithmetic stays in the tab. Nothing is sent to Catpool. You do not need an account, and closing the page clears the session.
Tips
- Change the conversion type first: From and To only list units in that family.
- Watch UK vs US volume labels when converting cookery or liquid measures.
- Very large or very small results may show in scientific notation so the page does not print a string of zeros, Copy still takes that same figure.
Common questions
Why is my tiny result in scientific notation?
Very large or very small numbers switch to exponential form for readability. Copy result still takes that same figure.
Is a stone 14 pounds?
Yes. The stone factor is the UK stone (14 lb / 6.35029318 kg).
Does data use 1000 or 1024?
1024. A megabyte here is 1,048,576 bytes, the binary sense used by most operating systems, not the 1,000,000 figure sometimes used on storage marketing labels.
Can I convert two different types at once?
No. Change the conversion type first. From and To only list units in that family.
Are UK and US pints the same?
No. They are listed separately. Choose the one that matches the source you are reading.
Is temperature a simple multiply?
No. Celsius, Fahrenheit and Kelvin use offset formulas through Celsius, not a single scale factor like length.
